Politics, sex, and religion: Voting as a woman… with a little common sense
Politics, sex, and religion are what make the world go round; however, today, allow me to focus primarily on the first as it relates to the upcoming presidential election. I am a woman; and as such, I say this. This November we are not auditioning for the next great political drama, nor are we taking a vote to elect the most ambitious student body president. We are electing the future president of the United States of America. If I were making a movie about how a young man overcame the challenges of divorce, a radical Islamic education, and involvement with known terrorist leaders to become the president of the United States, Obama would most certainly win the part. If I were a college student looking for a likable, charismatic speaker to represent the student body, I may elect him for a year; but, I would not elect such an individual to be president of a democratic country.
Call your writer biased, because I am; but, in all honesty, I believe that students on a high school debate team could debate Senator Barack Obama and win.
I say this for a number of reasons, and I look no further than the recent presidential debate. For one thing, I believe if my future president is asked a question regarding his policies, he should answer it. Secondly, I believe my president should know his own policies well enough to not contradict himself within an hour and a half. And, although I have plenty more to say about the qualities of a future president, I will hold my hands off the keys for now.
In Regards to conflict and Pakistan:
Obama: “…who is the best equipped as the next president to make good decisions about how we use our military, how we make sure we are prepared and ready for the next conflict.”
What next conflict?
Obama: …”the place where we are going to have to deal with these people is going to be in Afghanistan and Pakistan”
Obama: …”Nobody talked about attacking Pakistan.”
In Regards to the US troops:
Obama: …”in 16 months we should be able to reduce our combat troops…”
Obama: …”Yes, I think we need more troops. I’ve been saying that for a year now.”
In Regards to Russia:
Obama: …”I do not agree with Senator McCain that we’re going to be able to execute the sanctions without some cooperation from countries like Russia and China…”
Obama: …”Now, we can’t also return to a Cold War posture with respect to Russia…They not only have 15,000 nuclear warheads, but they’ve got enough to make another 40,000, and some of those loose nukes could fall into the hands of al Quaida.

Given that McCain also contradicts himself on almost a weekly basis, who are we supposed to vote for?
