Women Sometimes Lack Motivation

Published by renny at 2:03 am under women Edit This

We women are complex creatures and we are sorely lacking in the area of motivation.  I do not mean this in the traditional way–I do not think that women lack the ability to discipline themselves to do something: graduate from college, take on a new career, or run a household, etc.  I believe women to be perfectly capable of buying a house, traveling alone to a foreign country, or becoming president of a company– or a vice president of a country, take your pick.

No, what I mean lies beneath all of that.  The question is not do we lack inner assertiveness to take on a challenge; but what is our actual motive, or reason for wanting to do so?

For example, one of my early deep crushes was studying to be a doctor; I, for a while  seriously considered becoming a nurse.  Romantic idea, right?  The two of us working alongside of each other to save the world one sick person at a time.  There were just a couple of problems with the idea.  One, good student that I was, the list of classes required for pre-med were, in themselves, exhausting… especially for someone who dreaded lab day in every science class she ever took.  Secondly, bed pans, needles, and urine samples were far down on the list of things I wanted to surround myself with on a daily basis.  I am not knocking the nursing profession; but, as you can probably see, this was not the one for me as someone wisely pointed out before I got myself into it.

As I look back on my life, I wonder how many of my decisions were made because I chose to look at reasons instead of motivation.  In the future, I hope to look at why I really want to do something, or if I really want or should do it at all.  I think this will save me a lot of stress.
